True Love is Unconditional

I recently went to my grandniece’s wedding and felt a strong connection to be present and support her Mom who is a loving and caring person.  Many years ago she remarried her husband Paul; he was a strong force and support for my niece and her fragile daughter who was deeply hurt by her parents divorce.  Her father decided that he no longer wanted to be part of their small family, but when Paul came into the family, he showed that he not only wanted to marry my niece but he wanted to be the father for this beautiful child.  Well, on her wedding day, he wrote a poem that he shared for all who were present and I must admit it brought me to tears because of the tenderness that I felt from a father to a daughter.  I share this poem with you in the hopes that it might pull at your heartstrings and just possibly cause you to thing and reflect on a moment in your life when unconditional love took hold.

EMILIE AND SETH
10/05/2012

I met a special little girl on the day I met her mother
Little did I know, my heart had room for one plus another

Emilie was all raven hair, pretty eyes surrounded in pink
Asking myself, could I be a dad? I had to sit and think

Being a parent was not part of my master plan
But I quickly realized being a father, would make me a better man

This little girl was a firecracker, head strong and smart
She’d find ways to hide her Flintstone Vitamins; it soon became an art

When things became tough in life, she didn’t run and hide
Emilie would tackle any challenge with Boo Boo at her side

Now she’s a young woman, grown beautiful and strong
Time has quickly gone by, but for the past my heart will long

She is joining with a fine young man who has captured her heart
That’s why we are here today, to see a new generation start

Seth is a warm, intelligent and sensitive young man
I have no doubt that caring for Emilie he will do the best that he can

Being married is wonderful as you two will come to see
Traveling through the years as partners is the way it’s meant to be

You will have ups and downs, that’s simply part of life
I’m sure you can overcome anything as husband and wife

We are all fortunate to see you both so happy and full of love
I know this union has been blessed by the Lord up above

Emilie and Seth, I love you and to you I just have to say
I don’t think anyone’s prouder of you, than I am today

I look forward to hearing from you as you share your comments and thoughts with me.
