Jerry
Seinfeld once described the difference between tonight’s guy and tomorrow’s
guy. He said, tonight’s guy can go drinking as late as he wants because getting
up in the morning is tomorrow guy’s problem. Believe it our not, we too often are playing the Seinfeld
game in various areas of our lives by being irresponsible with our health and
wellbeing, or with our relationships and/or family matters because we think
that tomorrow is a long ways off and we don’t need to think about it yet.
The
distant future may seem a little strange to you right now to even give it any
thought but think again, it comes around faster than you think.
It
absolutely takes discipline to be mindful about your life, that is, taking
personal responsibility for your attitude, behavior and the environment in
which you live. Are you prepared
to expand your consciousness and become more alert and aware of the world
around you and its people? Only
when we learn our soul’s purpose, can we walk with intention and meaning.
Sooner
or later, each one of us will face a life-challenging situation where we will
be forced to make some soul-searching choices. Will you be prepared?
It could be a loss by death, divorce or financial loss, are you making
preparations now or are you waiting for tomorrow? Possibly you have been living your life based on other
people’s rules and expectations not on your goals or dreams and now you are angry
and upset because your life is passing you by. What are you waiting for? In truth it is never to late to try something new. You have always pushed your physical health
to the limits thinking that you have plenty of time to change your old habits
and form new patterns until one day you are told that you have a serious
problem. Even mental health today
affects members of our families on a regular basis. Have you shared with your loved one’s how much you love them
and do they know what brings you joy?
These
are just a few of the possibilities that may be lurking in your tomorrow. Unfortunately we don’t have a crystal
ball to give us clear and precise direction that is why we need to make sound
choices, develop mindfulness and discipline.
I
encourage you to reflect on this message and begin to prepare yourself for your
tomorrow. Challenges will come and
go and when they do, neither you nor I need to be devastated. When we develop a plan and entertain
thoughts about preparedness, we can and always do find the right solution to
help get us through the difficult times.
