All of us need to feel valued
and even special yet I have discovered that too many people do not believe that
they have anything special to offer to the world. That is a shame because if you do not value who you are and
believe in your talents and gifts, you are often left feeling unworthy and
missing a beat. It is extremely
easy to let negative thoughts and feelings sneak into your head and take you
out.
The world in which we live seems
to place excessive emphasis on outside values, such as how much money do you
have, what type of house or car do you drive, your marital status and how do
you present yourself to others.
While none of the above are in themselves bad, when taken in the content
of evaluating your life and the degree of worth or success that you possess,
they most certainly can be destructive.
I know that I have something of
value to share with the world. I
have come to that realization not because someone has told me so but rather because
I believe it within my core. I
know I am a person of integrity, kindness and compassion, I find it easy to
forgive and I love and value life and the earth in which I live. I care about my personal appearance and
I do not force my views on others.
How do you characterize yourself?
Are you kind and considerate towards yourself or do you continually
criticize your actions and appearance?
Are you continually comparing yourself with others because that is the
kiss of death? I believe each one
of us is unique in our own way and that we all have something special to share
whether it be with your friends or other family members.
Just yesterday, a woman called
the office because she was looking for guidance on how to control her 15-year
old daughter. My comments to her
were: that is your first mistake
because you do not have the right or the power to control anyone except
yourself. I further stated that
possibly there is a dual problem here that needs to be addressed—one is you and
the other is your daughter and why she has a need to be contrary. If you are willing to dig a little
deeper within your heart and soul, you probably will find the solution to your
problems. If you or someone you
know doesn’t feel special or valued, their behavior and attitude will most
likely be argumentative and combative but they can also become extremely
passive and withdrawn.
How you value yourself depends a
great deal on how you think others see you and accept you. Feeling accepted and valued is the
opposite of feeling lost and alone.
If you feel accepted by others, it is because you are being paid
attention to and therefore receiving favorable feedback. We do need to observe, however, if the
feedback that we are receiving is positive or negative because that too will
enable you to determine your worth and recognition by others. One of the best ways to determine if
you are being valued in a positive way is to sit with yourself and ask the
question to your soul. Your soul knows the answer and will always tell you the
truth. When you slow down your
energy and listen to the messages, you will definitely receive the correct
response. And once you
understand whether the feedback is positive or negative, you will be in a
better position to address your needs and recognize your worth as you
communicate with others.
