Not
to be confused with the television
series… This article is about those of you who are
stuck in a poor pathway in life. You continue to conduct the same actions and
behaviors over and over again. It is almost like you are stuck in repeat mode.
Your habitual behaviors have begun to affect your life in negative ways; and
now you feel like you are at the point of no return. Is this you?
Is there comfort in bad
behavior?
There was a woman, who
throughout the course of her life, chose to lead a stagnant lifestyle. She had
no aspirations to improve herself; and even when given opportunities to create
a successful life for herself, she made the active choice not to pursue those
opportunities. Now in her early 50's, she found herself in a depressing
position where she began questioning her purpose and meaning in life. As she
looked back across the decades, she thought about all her missed
opportunities. To make matters worse,
her idle lifestyle had led to her becoming overweight and unhealthy. Where did
all the time go, she wondered. Because she had nothing but time on her hands,
she began to think about all of her past failures and missed chances at truly
achieving prosperity. She had constantly made excuses for why she did not use
her talents and gifts in life up until this point. Now much older, her excuses
began to escape her; so she began to think about her childhood experiences. She
suddenly started blaming every experience and everyone else around her for her
inequities and lost chances. She found it comforting to use these newborn
excuses because she made the active decision not to achieve her own success in
life. The hard truth is that this behavior is only a crutch. The sad reality is
that many individuals use past experiences and people as a means to excuse
their own self-abusive behaviors.
Stop holding yourself
hostage to the crutch you have built for yourself. No one or nothing can make
you feel any particular way. Ultimately, you are the one in control of your own
emotions and lifestyle. You cannot change the past, but you do have the
opportunity to create your own happiness, success and prosperity right now. If
you continue to choose living on your crutch, then you have no one else to
blame for your inequities except yourself.
For example, if you want
to enter the workforce and build a successful career for yourself, then it is
up to you to initiate that process for yourself. Your spouse, friends and
family cannot do that for you. Only you can. If you want to become healthier
and happier, then you must make the active choice to shape your destiny. This
means you have got to get up and start moving. Stop languishing in your own
self-pity and put some fire behind your actions. Possibly you need to ask
yourself questions like:
· What
steps do I need to take to lose this excess weight?
·
What do I need to do to rid myself of this
chronic illness?
·
What actions can I take to become balanced
and fit?
·
What guidance can I get to help me
rediscover happiness in my life?
·
What direction do I need to take to invest
in my present and my future?
You must stop clinging to
your negative attitude. Own your failures and grow from them. Accept your life
for what it is, and then create a plan to become the success, have the
happiness, and experience the wellness you want and deserve in your life.
