What a
sad story we have created for ourselves—the need to be constantly monitored
because we lack the self-discipline, self-control, and our innate ability to
care and share with others.
I ask
you to look in the mirror and see if you are a responsible person who wants to
do the right thing? It can mean
that you are considerate towards others, you do not mock, insult or
deliberately embarrass people because they may be different from you, speak
differently, look different or live different. Tolerance and acceptance is part of the meaning behind the word responsible.
It is
time for each one of us to step back – look around and see how we are living
our lives, whether it is at work, at home or at play. Consideration, thoughtfulness, compassion,
kindness and respect are just a few of the words that come to mind for me yet I
find that too many people don’t even think about their meaning.
Those
individuals who are creating havoc in the world are hurting people. I can guarantee that they have cried
out for help—have expressed their pain in various forms but we have not taken
the time to listen to them or even care.
I
realize that in one way or another, most of us are hurting and in pain but
having said that, most of us are able to handle it and find comfort. Others are not that fortunate. So I ask you today to STOP ignoring
what is happening around you and STOP keeping a closed mind to what is going in
your community and begin to take notice of the world that is within your sphere
of influence. There is something we all can do, even if it is small. Start today to take responsibility for
your small part of the world.
