Even though
it is believed that we are genetically predisposed to certain traits and
shortcomings in our lives, it has been shown that when a person puts his or her
mind to it, they can actually alter their lives so that they do not repeat the
lineage or story of their ancestors.
If a person
continually looks at himself and agrees with others that he or she is limited
in their abilities, then that is exactly who they are. When I was a young girl, I was told that
I didn’t have the intelligence to be successful or a leader in my life. I struggled through school and lacked
the confidence need to prove to others that I was made of the right stuff. I may not have been an ‘A’ student but
I possessed then and I still possess today, the right mental attitude, the
discipline and the inner determination that says: ‘Yes, I can do it!’
If I believed
that I was at a disadvantage because it took me a little longer to grasp
something, I would have been left in the dark always feeling sorry for my
handicap or limits; I instead, tried harder, worked longer hours in preparation
until I understand and grasped the situation from all vantage points.
When some
people call it our generational curse or challenge others call it their
opportunity to prove the world wrong.
Whether it is a depressed gene or an angry gene or a cancerous gene—it
doesn’t matter. All of those genes
can be made dormant and inactive if that is your choice. They are only activated and brought to
the foreground when gone unrecognized and un-treated. For example, It is true that we are all born with cancer
cells in our bodies but that doesn’t mean that you or I will get cancer—all it
means is that the possibility is there if it is not held in check, in balance. When we are out of balance—bad things
can happen. My mother died from 7
years of horrific cancer, most of my female cousins either died of cancer or
had serious cases of cancer. One
of my own siblings had her breasts removed and filled to avoid the possibility
of cancer. I, instead, said to
God: “I do not want to ever get
cancer—I reject it!” My message back was: “You do not have to ever get cancer but
what are you going to do to make sure that you don’t get it?” That is part of my life journey. It is my responsibility and obligation to live consciously
and aware of whom I am and how I want to lead my life. I refuse to watch or listen to the dark
side of life in movies, books or on TV.
Negativity begets negativity. Stress, anxiety and fear open the door to
weakening our immune system. Why
should I fill me with dark and toxic energy? In truth once the darkness gets embodied within your cells,
it is difficult to remove it and get rid of it, so why do I want to subject me
to that situation?
I am here to
tell you that you don’t have to play out what your ancestors started or your
heritage card suggests. You can
break the bad, the negative traits and bring your attention and intention
towards those attributes and traits that will not only benefit you but your
children and future generations.
Your willingness to break the cord that has bound you and your lineage
for centuries will change your history and most likely that of your children
and their children. It requires
courage---it requires you taking authority against the negative spirits and
breaking the generational curse.
Every right choice that you make lessens the chance for bad traits to
come forth.
Learn to
break those cycles of negative behavior and beliefs and choose to walk on the
path to finding your greatness.
Those negative genes can still be inside of you but they do not have to
keep you from being and receiving your best.
