That
realization has strengthened my resolve and encouraged me to keep trying to
examine and explore new possibilities that I now realize I am able to
achieve. I am sure we all ask
ourselves many questions daily but it is how we answer them that is
important. You see; it is the
answer that you give to yourself that will help you decide on who you want to
become and how you want to be remembered.
Maybe
this is the time to remind you of all the things that you are good at and are
capable of achieving. You might
surprise yourself with some key strengths that you have prior to this time,
forgotten about and ignored. You
might need to get a legal pad and draw a line down the center and then at the
head of your first column write your strong characteristics or abilities and on
the other side your weaknesses and/or fear.
Self-motivation
is powerful. Here is an example that might help you. If you are a good
communicator or believe that you have a voice and a message to share with
others but you fear walking into a meeting alone or a group encounter, maybe
you need to look yourself in the mirror and say: I am capable—I have the abilities to network
and interconnect with others and I know that I will thoroughly enjoy walking
into a room alone because I have something special to offer.
Talking
to yourself and encouraging you are practical and a necessary tool to helping
you overcome your fears and shortcomings.
Preparing your emotions for all the ‘what if’s’ that can happen will enable you
to be even more prepared. Ever
time I have encountered those types of fears or worries, I have done exactly
that and to my delight, my fear evaporated and I thoroughly enjoyed the
experience.

“Believe
in yourself! Have
faith in your abilities!
Without
a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful
or happy.” --Norman Vincent Peale
“The
generality of mankind is lazy. What distinguish men/women of genuine
achievement from the rest of us is not so much their intellectual powers and
aptitudes as their curiosity, their energy, their fullest use of their
potentialities. Nobody really
knows how smart or talented he/she is until he/she finds the incentives to use
him/herself to the fullest. God
has given us more than we know what to do with it. –Sydney
J. Harris
