Some
people strive for perfection and I guess I have been one of them, but I now
realize that my life is a work in progress and I need to take each day, as it
is, do my best and always know that tomorrow I get another change to get
better. When I began to think this way, I started to also sleep better. I
wasn’t restless thinking about all the things I didn’t accomplish or the
projects that still need to be completed.
Learning to accept your day for what it is helps you to release your
anxiety and live less stressfully.
I have
also discovered that I am happy to get up in the morning with clear, new
thoughts on how to accomplish my tasks and fulfill my goal for the day. By
focusing on smaller tasks and mini-goals, I have been able to move easier
towards my larger goals.
It is
so much easier to develop the habit of taking one day at a time. Why you might ask? It saves you much stressful
moments and enables you to enjoy a sense of calm and inner peace, which is needed for good health
and personal survival. If you have
a difficult time practicing this technique, then ask God, your Creator to help
you –strengthen you and give you the foresight to understand the value of this
message.
Many
years ago a song was written by Marijohn Wilkin and Kris Kristofferson
entitled: “One day at a time.” It became an international hit, not because of the melody
but because the words hit home to millions of people. We all know in our hearts
that the words are true but some how we lack the courage and faith to live our
lives in that manner. The words
include: “One day at a time, sweet
Jesus. That’s all I’m asking from you.
Just give me the strength to do every day what I have to do. Yesterday’s gone, sweet Jesus. And tomorrow may never be mine. Lord, help me today. Show me the
way. One day at a time”
Maybe
you should start to say those words every day to yourself until the time comes
when they become a part of your heart,
soul and memory bank. I
have learned for myself that as I grow my faith and become more in tune with
God, God is showing me how to manage my life in an easier and healthier
way. When you try to take
everything on and attempt to control your outcome, you always fall short. You are no different than me or anyone
else—we all need help, support and encouragement and once you discover that the
answers lie with the power of God, your life will shift and your greatness will
be revealed to you. When we truly believe that there is a Force greater than
man and surrender to His loving embrace we are shown that all things are
possible to those who believe. Try to live one day at a time and then you will
see the love and mercy of God shine forth in your life.
St. Augustine once said, “Entrust the past to God’s
mercy, the present to his love and the future to his divine providence.” Amen.
