I
believe the greatest question to ask yourself is: What is really important today? Because in truth there is sufficient time to accomplish that
which is truly important and those chores or endeavors that can wait, should be
placed on a future to do list.
The key
to enjoying a life with less stress is having the ability to manage your time
successfully. How do you do
that you might ask? For me one of the first things
that I need to do is cultivate a good habit of prioritizing my time and accepting the order that I
have given myself of what is important and what is second in the scheme of
things. In other words, do not
fret or get upset if something is moved to another column or day but instead,
accept the rescheduling and move on.
Second
on my list is determining what I value the most – I cannot compromise my healthy mindset
or physical stability for pushing myself to finishing a task. I have done that in the past and I
discovered that my body will tell me when I have pushed too far. I prefer to reduce my physical pain and
discomfort and leave for tomorrow a task that can wait.
Third
on my list is coming to a better understand of what my purpose and function is for my life right now. You
see, in truth, we are not really managing time as much as we are managing
ourselves—our actions and our re-actions to what is in front of us helps
determine our outcome. It would be
most beneficial if we develop and then possess certain skills like, discipline
and focus. We must discipline ourselves
to stick with the task at hand and stay focused on it till completion. It is so easy to get distracted by the
phone, or text messages or even questions from colleagues but I have realized
that when I have something to do, I stay with it till it is satisfactorily
completed. Only then can I
comfortable move on to something else.
That means that you might need to make certain times of your day off
limits to disruption.

And
fifth, allow time each day for you to relax, unwind and simply enjoy a few
minutes of me time. I am a very self-motivated personality
who has the ability to complete tasks in a timely manner but at the same time,
I know that I need time to
replenish
my energy and build up a reservoir of healthy energy so that I can start all
over again tomorrow. Make the time
to figure out what works best for you, develop a healthy habit and mindset and
be in integrity as to how you want your day to play out. When you are prepared to make your day
flow smoothly with skill and honesty, you will be managing your life in a
healthy manner.
